As a non-profit organization, we depend on the enthusiasm, expertise, and time of our volunteers. Volunteers are vital to our mission of establishing and maintaining Open Space for the use and enjoyment of the general public. Volunteers use their knowledge and skills to help us educate the public about the flora and fauna, as well as assist us by leading hikes, equestrian tours and bike tours as well as other tours and special events. Volunteers also help us create and maintain trails and restore the Open Space, as needed.
If you want to make a difference, please get involved. Working together we can protect and preserve the natural heritage of the area.

Prior to the acquisition of the property by the Fond Land Preservation Foundation, a homeless encampment was located on this site. During the period of occupation by the homeless people, a fire occurred, which burned about 7 acres and caused the relocation of the homeless people. The firemen believe that the fire was accidentally started by the homeless.
July 30, 2005, was the first Volunteer Day. During the morning, the volunteers helped with the clearance of about 4 acres of what will become a part of the Fond Family Open Space. The volunteers were brought in to remove any man-made items which were left behind in the fire, as well as clear any tree limbs and brush which was detached from its roots during the fire. In addition, an arborist supervised the trimming of some trees which had previously been neglected for several years.

We will be having additional Volunteer Days in the future. Please keep checking the website for additional details, or go to the contact page and send us a request to be notified of future opportunities to volunteer your services to the Fond Land Preservation Foundation. |
